As as San Diego County area photography, I have over 18 years of experience working with Military families, commands and units within the San Diego County area during Military Homecomings, Promotion and Retirement Ceremonies, Holiday Parties, and other special events.
Over the years I have had the pleasure of working side by side with several commands as their preferred homecoming and event photographer. Besides being a military spouse for over 17 years, I have also volunteered my time as a Family Readiness Assistant during several of my spouses deployments. I personally know what it's like waiting for your loved ones to return home from deployment. I am here to offer not only my professional services but my support as well.
Whether you need a photographer to capture your spouse or family members first military homecoming or their last. I have had the pleasure of photographing many military homecoming sessions within the last couple of years aboard Camp Pendleton, San Diego Naval Yard and Miramar.
I'm here to not only help you photograph your next Military Homecoming Session but any and all Military related events and ceremonies. I have experience photographing special military events and ceremonies to include: special award events, military commissioning ceremonies, military graduations, as well as reenlistment and new rank ceremonies.
Having a professional photographer at your event will all you and your family to sit back and enjoy the special events and moments in your life. When you hire me to be your professional photographer you won't miss out on the entire experience and you'll be sure to have beautiful photographs from the event to share with your family and friends for many years to come.
I take great pride in my work as I photograph such life changing events and would be honored to be your event photographer during your families special military related events.

Have a blessed day,
Over the past year I've had the pleasure of meeting an incredible family. The Dempsey family took couple and family portraits before Kris deployed with me at Leo Carrillo Park in Carlsbad. Then I had the pleasure of photographing the Dempsey family as they welcomed home Kris from his overseas deployment. At the time of the homecoming you may recall, that beautiful Courtney was pregnant with baby Kaleb.
I am delighted to share in the great news, guess who made his grand entrance into this world just a few weeks after his daddy got home ... that's right ... November 12, 2014 Courtney and Kris welcomed their son Kaleb Archer into this world. He was born at 11:56am weighing 9lbs 3oz and was 20.5 inches long.
I was privileged to be told that Courtney was in labor and felt honored to be upon the few hospital visitors that Kaleb had. I was able to capture a few portraits of him in between him learning how to latch on, get his blood work done and being looked over by the doctors.

Modern Storytelling through photography has become by far my favorite type of session, besides newborns and birth sessions.
I love being able to photograph families in the comfort of their home, doing something they love doing. Interacting with each other and not worrying about me being in the room with a camera.
The video below is during a baby bump painting session. With every hand print made, I knew this family was bonding and creating memories that will for ever be remembered. It was a true blessing to be able to capture each moment as it passed by.
Special thanks to The Painted Oven for creating such a beautiful masterpiece.

I had the true honor and pleasure of photographing a Lifestyle Maternity Session for my beautiful dear friends that are expecting twins this January. These are not regular twins, these are beautiful little #RainbowTwins. More on Rainbow Twins below!
Ruthii of "The Painted Oven" was on hand to paint a beautiful cloud scene Cris' baby bump. She painted each family members hands and placed each hand print on mama Cris' baby bump. It was a beautiful way to include the kids into the miracle of this pregnancy.
Cris has successfully carried and delivered 4 wonderful children, who I have personally watched over the years grow into amazing kids. Sadly, over the past several years, Cris and her husband have endured 4 pregnancy losses. This amazing family has waited a long time for their rainbow babies. Their faith in the Lord, their family and their marriage have keep these two stronger than any couple I have met to date.
What is a Rainbow Baby?
A "rainbow baby" is a baby that is born following a miscarriage or still birth.
A beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better. The rainbow is more appreciated having just experienced the storm in comparison.
The storm (pregnancy loss) has already happened and nothing can change that experience. Storm-clouds might still be overhead as the family continue to cope with the loss, but something colorful and bright has emerged from the darkness and misery.
If you would like to schedule a Lifestyle Maternity Session and have your baby bump painted and photographed, please let me know.

I was honored to get a message from Shannon asking if I was available to photograph her husbands Military Homecoming. Derek has been severing his county proudly in the Navy for the past 10 years. Clearly both Derek and Shannon had seen their far share of long military deployment and this one wasn't any different, besides this time their beautiful little girl who had joined mommy in waiting for daddy's return.
Let me tell you, from the moment I met their beautiful little girl my heart fell in love with her giggles and her big sparkling eyes. As she ran around the San Diego Airport USO building, I knew she had most likely given mommy a run for her money while Derek was deployed. As we waited for Derek's flight to arrive I got to chat with Shannon while their little girl showed me all the magazines the USO had to offer. PS - there's a lot.
Side note: If you are in the military and ever delayed at the San Diego Airport, might I suggest heading to the USO! They serve cookies, drinks and have plenty of nice seating and tv's.
As we took the long walk down terminal two and finally beyond the security check, I had asked Shannon if she was getting nervous at all. She quickly said "no not really, I've done this before, I just can't wait for it to be over". As we got closer to the gate, Shannon freshened up in the bathroom and got their precious little girl ready to see her daddy. While standing at the sinks she looked over at me, took a long deep breath and said "Ok, I'm getting nervous!". I chuckled with her as I too know that feeling all too well. As a Marine Corps wife, I remember those butterflies, the heat rush and the anticipation completely takes over for a moment.
As we stood together in the bathroom, just two military wives sharing a moment ... I gave her hug and told her she looked AMAZING and so did her baby girl. I then told her "Ok, lets go get you your hubby".
Soon enough that time came, as they announced her husband's flight had landed she took one look at me and grabbed up her baby girl. They waited for what felt like forever ... several other military personnel stepped out of that door way and were greeted by their families. All of a sudden I hear "OH!!! He's here!!!" as Shannon set their daughter down, she ran up to Derek like no other toddler I've seen! He embraced his beautiful girl and she laughed! She knew who he was and was happy to be in his arms. As he stood up with his daughter in his arms he was embraced by his beautiful wife.
This family truly melted my heart, their love for each other was apparent. I was so happy to be able to be with them during this extremely special moment in their lives. I am also elated to say "They are under one roof again!". Woot woot!
Happy Veterans Day Derek! WELCOME HOME!!!
I tend to get the question of "How do you get that dreamy look" (aka Bokeh) from photographers and I see it posted in forums a lot.
There is no 100% perfect answer to that question because every situation is different. It has to do with how many subjects you have, the distance you are from your subject, the distance between your subject and the background, plus your cameras settings.
Here's a program that will help you learn just how to get your camera set up for the perfect Bokeh background. Remember it's all about your camera settings.
Do you know of other programs and apps that have worked for you? Let me know, I would love to check them out and review them.
I had the honor of photographing Jim and Sue Phelps family portraits at the very beautiful Encintas Moonlight Beach. Their daughter Emily contacted me in regards to getting an entire family portrait done as they hadn't been able to do so in many years. There would be Jim, Sue, their daughter Emily and her family, their daughter Megan and her family as well as their son Doug to photograph.
With a family of 13 people, I knew this was going to be fun. We ran around the beach, kicking a ball, dodging the waves and trying desperately to get little Aiden and Carter to smile at the same time for us.
I loved photograph Emily, her husband Chris, their 3 year old son Mason, and their 1 year old twin boys Aiden and Carter loved the ocean. Running around gathering rocks and kick their red ball were the highlight of their afternoon photo session.
Thankful for Doug, Jim and Sue's son for helping me coral the young boys several times during their session. I was even able to get the boys to all sit down and do a photo with their Uncle Doug.
I was overjoyed to see that Megan, her husband Scott, their sons Cameron and Brett and daughter Emilee had brought a Christmas sign that read "JOY". It was really big and bright RED .... as you all know, I LOVE LOVE LOVE props. It makes a session so much fun and when clients bring their own, it adds a fun personal touch.
